Flatbed just had one of its best weeks of the summer. Reefer threw a curveball nobody saw coming. And dry van is quietly holding its ground while nearly every market ticks up on the day. If you’re trying to figure out where to point your trucks this week, here’s what the data says.

This is your July 27 hot freight markets breakdown, powered by a morning snapshot of the Spotter Index.

Dry Van Hot Markets: California Still Has the Keys

VAN Jul27

San Diego jumped to the #1 spot this week, with Las Vegas sneaking into #2 — not a combination you see every day. Ontario, Los Angeles, and Fresno round out the top five, making California an almost clean sweep at the top of the dry van board.

The Southeast isn’t done though. Texarkana, Cape Girardeau, McAllen, and Evansville are all sitting in the top ten, keeping the South in the conversation. The overall dry van market is essentially flat week over week, but nearly every single market posted a positive daily change. That’s the market quietly finding its footing — not exciting, but it beats sliding.

Stay away from: Miami, Brooklyn, and the Northeast in general. They’re parked near the bottom of the board.

Reefer Hot Markets: Fresno Holds, But the Board Got Weird

RFER Jul27

Fresno is still the #1 reefer market, but the story this week is the moves nobody predicted. Tucson popped 18% in a single day. Duluth — yes, Duluth — jumped over 18% too. Those are the two biggest single-day swings in the entire dataset this week, and they’re not markets that usually make headlines.

Omaha cracked the top five, which is unusual. The California corridor (Ontario, San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco) is still running strong, but the board is more scrambled than it’s been in weeks. Worth paying attention to if you’re running reefer — the patterns are shifting.

The bottom of the reefer board is rough. Miami dropped nearly 10% on the day. Jacksonville, Lakeland, and Brooklyn are all struggling.

Flatbed Hot Markets: Best Week of the Summer

FLAT Jul27

This is the headline. Flatbed’s overall market jumped hard from last week — one of the biggest single-week moves of the summer — and the Southeast is leading the charge. Memphis is back at #1, Bowling Green at #2, Decatur and N. Charleston right behind them.

Look at the daily changes across the flatbed board and you’ll struggle to find red. Nashville, Houston, Jackson, Mobile, Montgomery — all up on the day. The Mid-South and Southeast are where flatbed capacity belongs right now.

Where to Run Your Trucks This Week

California for dry van and reefer. Southeast and Mid-South for flatbed — no question. The overall market is stabilizing across all three modes, and flatbed in particular looks like it’s got momentum heading into the week.
